Updated: Jan 18, 2023

Start: December 4, 2022 10:30 am

End: Decmeber 4, 2022 2:00 pm

Join us on this 4.4-mile loop trail in Malibu Creek State Park. This is an easy hike with lots of variety, taking less than 2 hours to complete. A lovely walk down an oak-shaded lane includes a stunning rock pool with walls of volcanic rock and a picturesque lake. Make sure to take the path down to Century Lake, it's a truly spectacular place to stop for a picnic. Those with more energy can continue on several miles past Century Lake to the site of the old M.A.S.H television series, which Lipman is most excited about! This hike is a great opportunity to learn about flora and fauna native to the Los Angeles area, a much better representation than walking around Westwood.

If you take EEB courses, you probably already know her. Professor Alison Lipman is an ecologist with 20 years of experience in the conservation field. She is co-founder and president of SELVA International, a locally based conservation non-profit run by Ph.D. ecologists. She has worked under contract with UCLA, the University of Georgia, the U.S. National Park Service, the California Dept. of Fish & Game, the U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service, the Bolivian National Park Service, various NGOs in the U.S. and South America, and as a private consultant. In addition to publishing in scientific journals, she is currently writing a popular-science conservation book.
