Join us for this beautiful 5.9 mile hike through the beautiful greenery of the Santa Monica Mountains. We will hike part of the famous Backbone trail, the Mishe Mokwa trial, and hit the tallest peak in the Santa Monica Mountains, Sandstone Peak, on this loop hike. With views of the ocean and the sprawling mountains around, we will gain approximately 1,400 ft on this moderately difficult hike.
Hiking with us will be Professor Michael Gutperle, who has been a physics professor at UCLA since 2003. He specializes in theoretical particle physics, quantum gravity, and string theory. Before his time at UCLA, he studied at Stanford, Princeton, Harvard, and Cambridge. He is currently teaching physics 1A and enjoys hiking with his wife and playing the guitar in his free time. You don't want to miss out on the chance to get to know him!
