Join us for a hike along the Temescal Canyon Trail in Pacific Palisades. The trail is accessible by bus, so we will be joining Professor Shipe in going car free by taking the 602 Metro bus! This is about a 4 mile moderate loop trail with 900 feet of elevation gain. The hike is exposed, so make sure to bring lots of water, sunscreen, and snacks and then get ready to trek through beautiful chaparral with fantastic views of the Pacific Ocean and the Santa Monica Mountains.
Joining us on this hike is Professor Rebecca Shipe, an associate professor of the Institute of the Environment and Sustainability, and is the instructor for the Sustainable LA Grand Challenges Undergraduate Research Scholars Program. Dr. Shipe's research interests are the ecology and physiology of marine phytoplankton, and she is a fantastic mentor to help students pursue careers in research and sustainability. She frequents this trail, and some of her past students put together a guide to invasive plants of the Los Angeles region, so get ready to work out and learn some plants!
