Skull Rock via Temescal Canyon is a fun trail with cool rock formations, small waterfalls, and views of the Pacific Coast, all while being surrounded by the Santa Monica Mountains! It is a moderate hike: 4.6 miles roundtrip with an 1135 foot elevation gain. Also, Temescal Canyon is totally accessible from UCLA on the weekdays using the 602 Metro line!
Joining us will be general chemistry professors Christian Beren (Chem 14 and 20 series) and Jennifer Casey (Chem 14BL/CL)! // Dr. Beren grew up in Philadelphia and graduated from Lehigh University with a B.S. in Chemical Engineering. He pursued his PhD at UCLA and today continues to study the self-assembly of virus particles. In his free time, he enjoys ice hockey, skiing, and hiking. Dr. Casey grew up in California and graduated from CSU Long Beach with a B.S. in Chemistry. She also pursued her PhD at UCLA and is currently performing research in chemical education. She was recently awarded the UCLA Distinguished Teaching Award in 2019.
Both have hiked with Peaks before and are excited to meet some new faces!
